Britain’s Best Cake returns for 2026, bringing together the nation's most skilled and creative professional cake makers for it's third year. Hosted by British Baker, the competition recognises excellence, craftsmanship, and execution. Whether you specialise in classic cakes, celebration cakes, traybakes, gluten-free or vegan cakes, this is your chance to showcase your expertise and benchmark your creations against the best of the best in the industry.
This year’s competition features nine categories: Blondies & Brownies, Celebration Cake (NEW!), Classic Cake, Fruit Cake, Gluten-Free Cake, Mini Cakes, Modern Cakes (NEW!), Traybake and Vegan Cake.

Categories
Brownies or blondies that are baked in a tray and portioned for sharing. This can include plain and flavoured variants, as well as with or without toppings and decorations. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale and at the same standard as submitted.
A traditional cake, including, but not limited to, Victoria sponge, coffee & walnut, carrot cake, Battenburg, chocolate fudge cake, and more. They can be loaf cakes, round, or other shapes. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale and at the same standard as submitted.
A cake of any variety but it must be made with 100% gluten-free ingredients – this includes, but is not limited to, the flour, raising agents, and any other ingredients or toppings. If the cake is sharing sized, entrants will need to supply one cake for judging. If it is individually sized, entrants will need to supply six cakes. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale and at the same standard as submitted.
A cake made with candied or dried fruit. This can include a classic fruit cake as well as regional specialities such as Dundee cake and Bara Brith. They can be any size or shape and decorated or plain. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. A one-tier cake which brings innovation to the table in terms of flavours, format, or decoration. This could include, but is not limited to, a new twist on a classic cake or the use of on-trend flavours such as matcha, pistachio, or yuzu. While a combination of flavours is welcome, every slice from the cake must be consistent meaning entries cannot comprise multiple slices of different cakes put together. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale and at the same standard as submitted.
Small cakes and muffins designed to serve one person. This could include fairy cakes, cupcakes, and muffins. The cakes must be baked individually and can be presented with or without toppings and/or fillings. Only one variant of cake is allowed per entry (for example, where cakes are sold in multipacks with different flavours, one flavour must be selected for judging at time of entry). Entrants will need to supply six cakes. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale and at the same standard as submitted.
Sharing-sized cakes for a special occasion which have a minimum of 10 portions. They must be dec-orated and should go above and beyond an everyday cake. This could include birthday cakes, wedding cakes, novelty cakes, and more. The celebration cakes can be one or more tiers, but the sponge and fillings must be the same throughout (for example, one tier can’t be fruit cake and another Victoria sponge). Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale (or available to order) at the same standard as submitted.
Cakes that are baked in a tray and portioned for sharing. This could include sponge cakes, tray cakes, and more but does not include no-bake items such as rocky road. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale and at the same standard as submitted.
A cake of any variety but it must be made with 100% vegan-friendly ingredients, including any toppings and fillings. This means it can’t include eggs, dairy, honey, or any other non-vegan ingredients. If the cake is sharing sized, entrants will need to supply one cake for judging. If it is individually sized, entrants will need to supply six cakes. Any brand names or characters used on the cakes must be officially licensed. Cakes entered must currently be available for sale and at the same standard as submitted.
